Common wooden boards are glued together from several pieces of wood and after some time gaps form here. That's why we were looking for a kitchen board that's made from just one piece of hardwood and also big enough for all the tasks in the kitchen.
We found it at John Boos. Since 1887, the sawmill in Effingham USA has been making these great blocks. The company's founder was originally a blacksmith and made his first block of wood to cushion the blows of his blacksmith's hammer. The local butcher loved it and immediately ordered one for meat processing. From then on, Boos produced wood blocks for the American meat industry.
Today, Boos' blocks can be found in restaurant kitchens around the world. And for good reasons: The hardwood cutting boards are extremely durable, sturdy and easy to clean. The finely ground wooden surface can be used on both sides and is gentle on the knife blade. In addition, the types of wood used, maple and walnut, have a high tannic acid content that naturally inhibits the growth of bacteria when properly cared for. The surface is largely natural and finished with beeswax.
Whether you choose the American Maple or Black Walnut finish: Boos uses only renewable American woods and belongs to the National Hardwood Lumber Association. This association practices sustainable forestry and environmentally conscious forest management in the USA.
